Alright, I’ve got myself a new cellphone, a Sony Ericsson C905, and it’s a rather nice phone.

One feature I really like about it is that it got WiFi, GPS and TrackID. For those of you who don’t know, TrackID is a service which consists of a webservice and an application on the phone which you can use to record a bite of a song from the radio, or elsewhere, and the application will communicate with the webservice to get metada for the specific song, like title, artist and album.

Then I found out than when connected to a WiFi accesspoint, TrackID uses that internet connection instead of using GPRS – nice.

So, I started to test the service, since some of the music I listen to is rather.. un-international, and the TrackID service recognized every single music number I threw at it.

This is what I tested with:

  • Red Warszawa – Lugter af fisk
  • Ministry – Nursing Home
  • Blind Guardian – Get to france (Yes, a Mike Oldfield cover)
  • Slayer – In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (another cover)
  • Gasolin – Langebro
  • Mastodon – Bladecatcher (I thought a track with a lot of “noise” could be difficult, but no)
  • Soulfly – Sangue De Bairro
  • Slåbrock Band – Kilroy Was Here
  • Floggin Molly – Laura

Apparently the TrackID database is rather extensive, but one thing all the tracks above have in common is that they have all been released on CD. So, to youtube to find some music that have NEVER been on a CD.

Slåbrock Band – A ku intj teenk mæ å fløet te tjøvenhavn

And – TrackID had to bite the dust. But now you know the title of the song, so it doesn’t matter. ;-)
