It's winter and almost everybody is getting a bit ill, either because of flu or just the common cold (common? Did you know that there are over 200 different causes to the common cold?)
Anyways, when I'm feeling ill and coughing, I boil a pot of "juice" and
it seems to help, so I'm going to share it with you.
- 1 liter of water.
- 1 piece of ginger, approx. 2x2x2 cm
- 1 large teaspoon of sambal oelek, or a chopped strong chilli
- 2 teaspoons honey
Chop the ginger into small pieces and put ginger, chilli and honey in a saucepan with water. Let it boil for about 10 minutes and then pour in a thermos. It's okay to let the ginger and chilli pieces remain in the extraction, since it would only provide a more potent mixture. Alternatively you can boil water in an Electric boiler and put the ingredients directly in the thermos and pour boiling water over.
Of course you can adjust the recipe a little, for example, there are probably many who would like more more honey or less chili in the drink.
Drink it like tea, it really helps.
If you have any advice on getting rid of colds, feel free to post them in a comment below.
