Lexmark X1180 in xubuntu

This is just a quick guide explaining how to make the Lexmark X1180 work in linux.

1. Download the driver from Lexmark's webpage and save it to your home folder.
2. Now run the following commands in a console:

cd \~
sudo aptitude install alien libstdc++5
mkdir lexmark
mv CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1.TAR.gz lexmark
cd lexmark
tar -xvzf CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1.TAR.gz
tail -n +143 z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh \> install.tar.gz
tar -xvzf install.tar.gz
alien -t z600cups-1.0-1.i386.rpm
alien -t z600llpddk-2.0-1.i386.rpm
sudo tar xvzf  z600llpddk-2.0.tgz -C /
sudo tar xvzf z600cups-1.0.tgz -C /
sudo ldconfig
cd /usr/share/cups/model
sudo gunzip Lexmark-Z600-lxz600cj-cups.ppd.gz
sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart || sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart

Add the following line to /etc/fstab if it's not already there:

usbfs         /proc/bus/usb usbfs   devgid=14,devmode=0660 0 0

and run this command

sudo mount usbfs

If you want to check if your printer is recognized, type the following in a console:

cd /usr/lib/cups/backend
./z600

The output from the z600 program should be similar to this:
direct z600:/dev/usb/lp0 "Lexmark Lexmark Z600 Series" "Lexmark Printer"
