Linda Perry was born on April 15th, 1965, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Her father was a Portuguese-American man, named Alfred Xavier Perry, her Brazilian-born mother was Marluce Perry. Linda’s mother worked as a designer, model and private detective! Mr. Perry worked as an engineer and as a musician.
Linda Perry spent most of her youth dealing with kidney disease and then addiction, before she started paying attention to music. Linda Perry’s first song was Pity Girls, which she wrote when she was only 15 years old.
In the middle of 1989, when Linda was around 24 years old, she was recruited into 4 Non blondes. 4 Non Blondes played various gigs, but it was first in late 1992 that the band signed with Interscope Records and released their first record, called “Bigger, Better, Faster, More!”. Linda was the lead singer and the hit single “What’s up?” was a great success!
In 1994, Perry left 4 Non Blondes to pursue her solo career. In 1996, she released her first solo album, called “In Flight”. In 1997, she started her own record label, called “Rockstar Records”, to sign with a band she liked very much, called “Stone Fox” as well as another San Fransisco band, “2 lane blacktop”.
With much of her time now being spent behind a desk, Linda starts writing songs which other artists can use. Linda Perry has worked with artists such as Christina Aguilera, P!NK, Alicia Keys, Courtney Love, Enrique Iglesias, James Blunt, Lisa Marie Presley, Robbie Williams, Sugarbabes, Celine Dion and Gwen Stefani.
Linda Perry have never tried to hide that she is a lesbian. In 1994, when 4 Non blondes was performing at the 1994 Billboard Music Awards, she was using a guitar with the word dyke (slang for lesbian) written on it.
She dated Clementine Ford, Cybill Shepherd’s daughter – and now she is dating Sara Gilbert!
Sara Gilbert confirmed their relationship in the show “The Talk”, which she co-hosts.
